“Steve Welk Announces Return to the Cooper Tires Formula Ford 2000 Series for Season Finale at Road America”

“Former Series Front Runner to run with ArmsUp Motorsports”

SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. – Former Cooper Tires Formula Ford 2000 Series front runner Steve Welk has announced that he will make a return to the series for the season finale at Road America. The Cooper Tires Series will run as a support race for the Champ Car World Series’ return to Road America September, 22 – 24. Welk, who has one podium finish in the series, will run with top SCCA team ArmsUp Motorsports. This will be the 23-year-old’s second outing with ArmsUp Motorsports. Welk ran the 2005 June Sprints in one of the team’s Formula Continental cars.

Welk spent the 2003 and 2004 seasons in the Cooper Tires Series finishing 10th and seventh respectively in the season standings. Welk returned to kart racing for the 2005 season competing in the Stars of Karting Championship and made one formula car start with ArmsUp Motorsports at the SCCA June Sprints. This season Welk has been competing in the Spec Miata class for UEMSI Motorwerks as well as managing his kart racing company Linear Sport.

ArmsUp Motorsports is no stranger to Road America or to pro racing. The ArmsUp squad, which is based in Sheboygan Falls, Wis, ran Daniel Dileo and Chris Menninga in the Champ Car Altlantic Championship race at Road America in 2005 scoring a podium finish on the track with Dileo and putting Menninga in the top 10.

Joining the ArmsUp team for the event will be John Mullen. Mullen, who was Welk’s race engineer for half a season at Aiken Racing, has spent the last two seasons with Walker Racing’s Formula BMW program as race engineer. Mullen will assume the same role with ArmsUp Motorsports for the event.

“I am very excited to be back in the Cooper Tires series,” commented Welk from the ArmsUp shop. “I have been working with Gregg (Borland, ArmsUp Motorsports Team owner) since last season and I think we can do very well together at Road America. Bringing John (Mullen) into the program is going to be a huge plus to the effort because we worked together when we were at Aiken Racing and already have established good communication. I hope we can put on a good show for all the people who have helped me return to this great series.”
